I am an environmental microbiologist interested in how microbes interact with each other and their environment. As a Research Fellow at Monash University working with the ARC Special Research Initiative “Securing Antarctica’s Environmental Future”, I explore how microbes in Antarctica’s ice-free areas meet their energy, carbon and water needs. I also study how primary production and microbial communities in Antarctica will be influenced by climate change. I have participated in three Antarctic expeditions to collect samples, twice to central Dronning Maud Land, and most recently to the McMurdo Dry Valleys.

Previously, I worked at Heriot-Watt University Edinburgh, UK) researching microbes that can break down polystyrene in the ocean. I completed my Bachelor of Advanced Science (Microbiology) and PhD at the University of New South Wales, studying bacteria that can break down toxic pollutants in groundwater.
