Dr Ross Dwyer is a Senior Lecturer in Animal Ecology at the University of the Sunshine Coast. His research uses emerging technologies to gain insights into the ecology, physiology and behaviour of wild animals. He works closely with local stakeholders to guide how this information can be applied to improve species management and facilitate conservation efforts.

Ross is an experienced field ecologist and has coordinated a number of long-term research programs in aquatic and terrestrial environments. This includes a continuing 15-year study into crocodile and shark movement behaviour in the eastern Gulf of Carpentaria, investigations into crocodile social systems and acoustic communication, and programs quantifying environmental flow requirements for aquatic animals.

Ross is an active member of Australia’s animal tracking community, and sits on the Scientific Steering Committee and the Data Subcommittee for the Integrated Marine Observing System Animal Tracking Facility.
