- Palaeontologist, Rhodes University
Rose Prevec has worked on the Permian fossil plants of South Africa for over 20 years, with a particular interest in the Gondwanan tree Glossopteris and its peculiar reproductive structures, and the reconstruction of past ecosystems and palaeoenvironments. With multiple overseas collaborations she revels in the multinational and interdisciplinary nature of palaeontology, and the sense of being an explorer of ancient undiscovered versions of our planet through deep time. She obtained her Ph.D in palaeobotany at the Evolutionary Studies Institute, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg in 2005, and has been based at the Albany Museum, Makhanda, Eastern Cape ever since. She has been Curator and Head of the Earth Sciences Department since 2016. She is also a research associate in the Botany Department at Rhodes University.
