Rogelio Sánchez Villegas

From 2016 to 2022 I collaborated with the Botany Area of the Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemical Engineering of the Pablo de Olavide University. There I had the opportunity to carry out my Final Degree and Mas-ter's Thesis, in addition to participating in numerous research projects related to the study of the biodiversity of vascular plants, especially the megadiverse genus Carex L. These studies have ranged from the most fundamental aspects, such as the development of floristic catalogs, to more complex ones, such as the development of molecular phylogenies. From October 2022 to April 2023, I was hired at the Royal Botanical Garden of Madrid through an Investigo Program contract, in the research group of Pablo Vargas, where I was learning massive sequencing techniques (GBS) of DNA from vascular plants, specifically from the genus Rubus L. I am currently employed at the Univer-sidad Pablo de Olavide as a Senior Research Support Staff at the Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemical Engineering, in the Botany Area, where I am pursuing my PhD studies under the project "Genomic islands of dif-ferentiation and speciation in a mega-diverse genus of angiosperms with rapid chromosomal evolution".
