Robyn Atcheson

I am a public historian and history communicator alongside lecturing and teaching in Irish history, social history of medicine and women's history. My doctoral research looked at poverty and public health in early nineteenth-century Belfast. I won the Kirkpatrick History of Medicine Research Award from the Royal College of Physicians in Ireland for part of this research.
In 2025 I was elected Associate Fellow of the Royal Historical Society.
I am currently working on a project to commemorate the burial ground of the Belfast workhouse and a survey of all the workhouses and burial grounds in Ulster. I am passionate about bringing history out of the academy so I love participating in local festivals, giving public talks and tours, and working with the media.
