- Professor of Business Analytics, UNSW
My research focuses on big data analytics and data science. I bring to this research my previous work in agile software development, pro-societal information systems (ProSIS), and social network analysis. From a meta-theoretical stance my work is informed by complex adaptive systems theory and sociomateriality.
From a methodological perspective, my extensive background as a practitioner has led me toward research methods that involve finding out why things are as they are (e.g., case studies) and working with industry to instigate change in real-world settings in order to learn (e.g., action research and design science).
I have used quantitative methods extensively in teaching and research, including partial least squares path modelling, structural equation modeling, and multi-level modeling. More recently I have deployed a range of machine learning techniques using R as part of a big data analytics research agenda and am a member of the OR Society’s Analytics Development Group.
