- Research Fellow, Virology, The University of Queensland
Rhys Parry is a virologist and ARC DECRA Fellow at The University of Queensland, with expertise in virus discovery, virus evolution, RNA virology and host–virus interactions. His research combines genomics, metagenomics, transcriptomics, and experimental virology to identify overlooked viruses, understand how viruses evolve across host species, and define how infection alters host biology.
He has worked across flaviviruses, coronaviruses, divergent influenza-like viruses, and RNA vaccine platforms, with a particular focus on emerging viruses, viral host range, antiviral responses and virus-driven changes in infected cells and tissues. Rhys has published in leading virology and infectious disease journals, including Nature Communications, PNAS, PLoS Pathogens, Journal of Virology, Virus Evolution, Microbial Genomics and Emerging Infectious Diseases.
