Renier Coetzee

I obtained a B.Pharm and M.Pharm in pharmacy practice from the North-West University in South Africa. I worked in various areas of pharmacy, including retail pharmacy, distribution and hospital pharmacy. In 2013, I completed the Pharm.D programme from Rhodes University, and joined the University of the Western Cape.

Currently I serve on various local and national department of health committees, appointed as expert reviewer of the Standard Treatment Guidelines for South Africa. On an international level, I was appointed as clinical associate professor at MCPHS University and act as clinical facilitator for the University of Wisconsin and West Virginia University.

My research focus is in the area of rational medicine use and antimicrobial stewardship. Using the social accountability framework, I am collaborating with various role players and stakeholders to engage with communities to strengthen healthcare systems. My goal is to establish the clinical pharmacist as an integral member of the healthcare team.
