- Barrister and Human Rights Lecturer, Sheffield Hallam University
I am a criminal barrister and international human rights lawyer. I am currently a Lecturer in Human Rights at the Helena Kennedy Centre for International Justice, Sheffield Hallam University. I am a member of Inner Temple and the New York Bar.
I completed a JD at Berkeley and Harvard Law Schools (3-year law degree) and was then awarded a Harvard Henigson Human Rights Fellowship to fund grassroots work in Egypt. From 2009-2011 I ran a strategic litigation initiative spanning North Africa and regularly brought cases before the African Commission. I have completed human rights consultancies in countries including Afghanistan, Syria, Lebanon and Tajikistan.
Before becoming a lawyer, I completed a DPhil, MSt and BA in English Literature at the University of Oxford. My PhD focussed on the autobiographies written by British suffragettes.
I am a trustee of Freedom from Torture and The Schools Consent Project.
