I research and teach about children, childhood, and youth, largely drawing on more socio-cultural theorizing. I am particularly interested in how we conceptualize childhood and youth, and the implications of these conceptualizations. I am also interested in children's diverse lives and experiences, especially how these lives and experiences are shaped by various social inequalities. In my research I tend to talk directly to young people to learn about their views and experiences. I have studied how young people think about and experience school rules, gender and school achievement, teenagers' online video-making, children's very first paid work experiences, and children's lives under the COVID-19 pandemic.
