- Postdoctoral Research Associate, ARC Centre of Excellence for the History of Emotions (Europe 1100-1800), University of Sydney
I am an early career researcher at the University of Sydney's Medieval and Early Modern Centre. Here I work as a Postdoctoral Research Associate for the ARC Centre of Excellence for the History of Emotions (Europe 1100-1800), or the CHE.
My CHE project identifies and theorizes emotions related to suicide in medieval Europe, c. 1100-1500. I research legal documents and chronicles to consider the emotions attributed to people who killed themselves and the emotional responses of family, community, judiciary, and crown.
My DPhil at Oxford considered the use of legal, political, and bureaucratic language in the literature of Geoffrey Chaucer, Thomas Usk, and Thomas Hoccleve, challenging our ideas of vernacular and literary language in late medieval England. At Oxford I taught medieval literature and linguistics and worked as Junior Dean at Exeter College.
