Reakeeta Smallwood

Reakeeta Smallwood is a proud Gamilaroi calala murri yinarr (woman), Registered nurse, PhD. Reakeeta has worked across varying clinical settings in the fields of emergency, perioperative, medical, surgical, special care nursery and palliative care. In 2020, Reakeeta was awarded the prestigious Jumbunna Postgraduate Scholarship at the University of Technology Sydney to study historical trauma and resilience with Aboriginal young people as part of an Australian Research Council Grant (#IN170100008) aimed at understanding Aboriginal young peoples’ wellbeing and resilience. Since completing her PhD, Reakeeta has published widely in Quality health and Indigenous-led research journals. Additionally, Reakeeta has had a book chapter published in Voices and Silences: Poetry as Knowing and Learning in Social Research. Additionally, Reakeeta was awarded the University of Technology Sydney’s Faculty of Health’s Research-Intensive Scheme to explore community-led knowledge translation in Naarm, Melbourne. Reakeeta additionally works in the spaces of research and governance within her community and is named as a Chief Investigator on a few community-led health research projects.
