My most recent book, "Backlash: Libel, Impeachment and Populism in the Reign of Queen Anne" was published in November 2020 by University of Virginia Press.
My Op-Ed columns, about the parallels between eighteenth-century politics and events in the United States today, have appeared in Salon, The Hill, The Globalist, The Conversation, The Plain Dealer, Inside Sources, and Eurasia Review.
I am co-editor of "The Secret History in Literature, 1680-1820," published by Cambridge University Press. My first scholarly monograph was "Partisan Politics, Narrative Realism, and the Rise of the British Novel." I co-edited a five-volume scholarly edition of the works of Delarivier Manley, an eighteeth-century political satirist, and I wrote "A Political Biography of Delarivier Manley." My research for that biography was supported by a year-long fellowship from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
I have produced research articles about Aphra Behn, Eliza Haywood, Anne Bronte, Samuel Richardson, Charlotte Lennox, Delarivier Manley, and Jane Austen.
