Rachel Carmody (Ph.D., Harvard University, 2012) is a Postdoctoral Fellow in Microbiology & Immunology at UCSF and a Visiting Fellow in Human Evolutionary Biology at Harvard. Her work investigates the biological, behavioral, and environmental determinants of dietary energy gain using a multidisciplinary approach that integrates perspectives and techniques from nutrition, physiology, microbiology, and metagenomics. Major projects focus on the energetic consequences of food processing and the contributions of the gut microbiota to energy metabolism. In 2016, she will join the faculty of the Harvard Department of Human Evolutionary Biology.
