I am a research scientist studying what insect can smell and see. Insects commonly rely on these two modalities to navigate their environment. Attractive odors are commonly used to find mates (using pheromones) or food sources (attractive plant scent). But identifying and using these compounds we can create attractive traps to control invasive insects pests. I also study what colors and how well can insects see.
My research aim to:
- increase trap efficiency for pest control by understanding insect color vision and odor perception, leading to more sustainable solutions;
- contribute to broader ecological and evolutionary studies, shedding light on the evolution of eyes and color vision in different species.
- foster a greater appreciation of nature, highlighting the intricate ways insects interact with their environment.
