Dr. Qian Liu (pronounced Chian Lieu) is Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Calgary. She is a law and society scholar with research interests in the place of law in everyday life, legal cultures, the legal profession, dispute resolution, legal pluralism, Chinese law and society, and law and family relations. She welcomes the opportunity to work with graduate students interested in any of these areas of study.

Dr. Liu has published numerous articles in top-tier journals, such as Law & Society Review and Law & Social Inquiry. She has served on the Law and Society Association Board of Trustees (Class of 2028), the Asian Law and Society Association Board of Trustees (2022-2023; 2024-2025), and the Editorial Board of the Asian Journal of Law and Society.

Dr. Liu is the author of Leftover Women in China: Understanding Legal Consciousness through Intergenerational Relationships (University of California Press, 2025).
