- Postdoctoral Research Fellow, School of Optometry and Vision Science, University of Auckland, Waipapa Taumata Rau
I am a Post‑doctoral Research Fellow at the School of Optometry and Vision Science at the University of Auckland. My work focuses on improving eye health and making health systems work better and more fairly, especially for people and communities who are often underserved.
My research includes studying health inequities, measuring how well health services perform, and improving care for conditions such as diabetic retinopathy. I work extensively with health data and am increasingly focused on how AI and data systems can help doctors, health services, and policymakers make better decisions.
I have worked on health‑system improvement projects in both low‑ and high‑income countries, advised international organisations, and collaborated with partners across government, universities, and industry. I completed my PhD on using outcome‑based measures to improve health systems. I have received the Buchanan Charitable Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship (2023) and the NZAID Scholarship (2014).
