Polina Zelmanova

(she/they)

I am a PhD candidate and Graduate Teaching Associate and Guest Lecturer in Film and Television Studies at the University of Warwick, funded by M4C AHRC (2022-2026). My project focuses on representations of sex, power and pleasure in popular film and television in the #MeToo era.

I write about a range of film and TV texts including those depicting sex work, romance fiction adaptations (Bridgerton), and adaptations of the bride of Frankenstein character (Poor Things). I am also a co-convenor of the Screening Sex research network.

My article on the female porn performer on screen has been published in the journal of Porn Studies: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/23268743.2025.2476971#abstract

Outside of academia I work as a Sex and Relationship Education Programmes Facilitator and Media Education Specialist at the School of Sexuality Education.
