Dr. Ping Chen is a senior research scientist at the Carolina Population Center located at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Chen is interested in taking an integrative approach to study the social, behavioral, and biological linkages in mental and physical health across the individual life course, family processes and mental health, and social determinants of health disparities over time. She is an experienced methodologist with advanced skills in modelling longitudinal and multilevel data and weighting and analyzing complex survey data. Chen is a scholar of immigration studies striving to understand the connection between assimilation processes and social inequality, and physical and mental health disparities of immigrants and their descendants of first, second, third-plus generations. She was awarded the Star Heel Award in 2015 for highly valued employee from UNC-Chapel Hill. Chen received her doctorate in sociology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
