Pietro Viacava is currently a Digital Research Curator at the Australian National Wildlife Collection (CSIRO) with a PhD in Evolutionary biology from The University of Queensland. He specialises in heritage digitisation and 3D imaging, with hands-on experience developing protocols and workflows for imaging and managing natural science collections. Pietro has led and coordinated major digitisation tasks, contributed to collaborative research projects, and applied a range of 3D data capture techniques, including photogrammetry, surface scanning, and Computed Tomography segmentation to thousands of specimens in Australian and international museums. He has delivered 3D digitisation workshops, published research on 3D morphology and biodiversity, and is passionate about advancing scientific access to museum collection through innovative digital methods.
