Piers’ work focuses on the law and policy of disability and health. He is the author of A New Era for Mental Health Law and Policy: Supported Decision-Making and the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (Cambridge University Press, 2017), and the co-editor of two edited collections: The Future of Mental Health, Disability and Criminal Law (Routledge, 2024) and Disability, Rights and Law Reform in Australia (Federation Press, 2017), among other publications, and he is on the editorial board of the International Journal for Mental Health and Capacity Law and International Journal of Disability and Social Justice. Piers has held roles as a senior research fellow at Melbourne Law School (2015-2023), a research associate at the Melbourne Social Equity Institute (2015-2018) and a postdoctoral research fellow at the Centre for Disability Law and Policy, at Galway University in Ireland (2014-15).
