Phillipa C. McCormack

Phil is a Future Making Fellow in the Environment Institute at The University of Adelaide; and an Australian Research Council DECRA Fellow. She researches climate change adaptation law and governance, with a particular focus on legal frameworks for bushfire and for facilitating adaptation-oriented biodiversity conservation. Her recent work focuses on legal aspects of bushfire prevention and preparation, ecological restoration and government accountability. Phil’s current research includes analyses of legal mechanisms for the beneficial use of fire, and a comparison of Australia and California’s fire mitigation and hazard reduction laws. She has published with lawyers, scientists and policy makers in a range of scientific and legal journals. She is also an adjunct lecturer at the University of Tasmania law school and an affiliated member of the Centre for Marine Socioecology.
