I am Deputy Director of the Centre for Space, Atmospheric and Oceanic Science in Bath, joint between Engineering and Physics. I also lead the acoustics group in the Department of Physics. I have a PhD in Physics from Paris (France), and I am also a Chartered Geologist and a Fellow of the Institute of Acoustics (UK).

Acoustics is the best remote sensing tool to find out what is going on underwater. For my research, I design new instruments (e.g. multi-angle sonars, subsea imaging platforms), new processing techniques (e.g. texture analyses of sonar imagery, data fusion, ambient noise) and I apply them to problems of topical and general interest. This includes mapping marine habitats and geo-hazards (from the Venice Lagoon to abyssal plains and traces of past tsunamis), using ambient noise to monitor Arctic glaciers, protect marine life or improve mitigation in seismic exploration, and acoustic monitoring of Marine Renewable Energies (tidal and wave).
