Professor of Journalism Practice Peter Fray is the co-director of Centre for Media Transition and the head of the journalism discipline at UTS.
He is an advisor to several media entities including the global News Integrity Initiative, a $14m fund to help foster civic discourse, Crinkling News, Australia's only newspaper for school kids, and the Australian Science Media Centre.
He is the former editor or editor-in-chief of The Sydney Morning Herald, The Sun-Herald, The Canberra Times and The Sunday Age. In 2013, he started PolitiFact Australia, the nation's first stand alone fact-checking operation. Before joining UTS in late 2015, he was deputy editor of The Australian.
He is an irregular media columnist for Crikey.com and the first Australian to be a Tow-Knight Fellow in entrepreneurial journalism at City University New York.
A former foreign correspondent for The Age and SMH, Fray has reported widely on media, politics, religion, national affairs and agriculture. He is a failed gossip columnist.
