Peter Adkins is Lecturer in Modernist Literature at the University of Edinburgh. He is the author of The Modernist Anthropocene: Nonhuman Life and Planetary Change in James Joyce, Virginia Woolf and Djuna Barnes (2022) and editor of Virginia Woolf and The Anthropocene (2024). He primarily works on early twentieth-century literature, exploring how innovations in literary style and form have been used to reimagine what it means to be human and how literature can help us imagine, understand and rethink environmental history, planetary change and resource use. .He is currently writing a monograph on Virginia Woolf, extractivism and imperialism.
He is one of the judges of the James Tait Black Prize in Fiction.
