Originally a journalist by trade and education, I am now an academic working at the intersection between medical sociology and media studies. I have conducted and supervised studies on, for example, online genetic testing, cardiovascular screening, antibiotic prescribing, self-tracking and AI chatbots. I have a long-term expertise on eating disorders and have conducted studies on their history, lived experience and media coverage; my current research focuses on eating disorders and social media and relationships in inpatient treatment. My research has been funded by ESRC, NIHR and Wellcome, among others.
