My research explores urban change in the global South with a strong focus on social relations and processes, including gender. I have led two large projects, one focusing on everyday life in African urban peripheries, and the other on youth and the work/housing nexus. I spent many years at the University of Sheffield and am now based the University of Glasgow in their Urban Studies subject group, as Professor of Southern Urbanism.
