Dr. Patrina Duhaney is an educator, scholar, and activist whose work centers on dismantling anti-Black racism and advancing racial and gender justice in Canada. She previously served as Chair of the Anti-Black Racism Task Force in the Faculty of Social Work at the University of Calgary, where she led institution-wide initiatives to address systemic inequities and strengthen accountability.

She is currently the Academic Co-Lead for Democracy, Justice, and Sustainability in the Institutes for Transdisciplinary Scholarship at the University of Calgary. Dr. Duhaney’s transdisciplinary work integrates social work, criminology, education, gender studies, and law, positioning her as a leading voice on systemic inequities and justice for equity-deserving communities. Her research has been widely published in peer-reviewed journals and informs national conversations on anti-Black racism, systemic oppression, and the experiences of Black communities.

Beyond the academy, she collaborates with community organizations and government partners to influence policy, strengthen community responses, and support transformative change. Her contributions have been recognized through major honours, including the University of Calgary’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Award, the Teaching Award for Team Teaching, the Faculty of Social Work Early Career Research Award, and the Calgary Black Achievement Award in Education.

Dr. Duhaney’s work continues to inspire and equip emerging scholars, practitioners, and community leaders committed to justice and equity.
