- Postdoctoral Research Fellow, SOAS, University of London
I work in the Development Studies Department at SOAS University of London where I am a Co-Investigator on a four-year GCRF-funded research project entitled Drugs and (Dis)order: building sustainable peacetime economies in the aftermath of war. My research explores the political economy of violence, conflict and development, with a primary focus on the dynamics of statebuilding, peacebuilding, and illicit economies in Myanmar’s borderlands. From this vantage point, I engage with an array of literatures and development issues including resource politics, poverty and insecure livelihoods, labour and migration, and processes of agrarian change. I have also conducted research for the UK Government Stabilisation Unit, the World Bank, Conciliation Resources, and Christian Aid. I am co-author of the 2018 UK Government Stabilisation Unit report, ‘Securing and sustaining elite bargains that reduce violent conflict’.
