Patrick Effiong Ben

Patrick is an AHRC NWCDTP- and SoSS-funded Doctoral Researcher in the Department of Philosophy, School of Social Sciences at The University of Manchester, United Kingdom, conducting his doctoral research in Applied Ethics and African Philosophy. His research addresses the problem of collective impact and inconsequentialism in climate change, political participation, and related collective action cases.

Patrick is a Research Associate with the Decoloniality Research Group (DRG) at the University of Pretoria, South Africa, and a member of the Conversational School of Philosophy (CSP) in Calabar, Nigeria. His research interests span Applied Ethics, African Philosophy, Moral Philosophy, Conversational Philosophy, Social and Political Philosophy, and Responsive Educational Models.

Patrick is a former Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program (MCFSP) Graduate Scholar (2021-2023) at the University of Pretoria, South Africa, and an interdisciplinary researcher with a Bachelor of Arts (First-Class Honours) degree focused on Philosophy from the University of Calabar, Nigeria; and a B.A. Honours (with Distinction) and a Masters degree focused on Moral Philosophy from the University of Pretoria, South Africa.

Patrick is a 2025 Visiting Doctoral Researcher in the Department of Philosophy, School of Philosophical Historical and International Studies (SOPHIS), Faculty of Arts at Monash University Australia, a 2024 and 2025 European Forum Alpbach Full Scholarship Holder, a 2023 Centre for Logic, Epistemology and the History of Science (Brazil) Full Grant Recipient, a TEDxUniversityofPretoria 2022 speaker, a quality education advocate, an award-winning poet, and a writer with published works on prominent peer-reviewed journals and creative media platforms. In 2017, he was among the few Nigerians selected to serve as one of the pioneering TeachSDGs Ambassadors by the UN Global Goals Education Task Force for the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals in Nigeria due to his advocacy for SDG 4.
