Pamela M. Buchan is a Research Fellow at the University of Exeter and an interdisciplinary marine social scientist specialising in marine governance, marine citizenship, and human–ocean relationships. Her research examines how participation, identity, and policy can support sustainable and socially just ocean futures.
She holds a BSc (Hons) in Marine Biology, an MSc in Coastal Zone Management, and an MRes and PhD from the University of Exeter (ESRC-funded). Before returning to academia, she worked in science communication and public engagement in the charity sector.
Her work bridges research and impact through collaborations with policy and practice partners. She developed the Local Government Ocean Recovery Declaration (#Motion4TheOcean) and was awarded the 2022 ESRC Celebrating Impact Prize for Outstanding Early Career Impact.
