Unraveling Malaria’s Secrets: The Science of Parasite Transmission

Malaria is one of the world’s deadliest infectious diseases, and my research focuses on understanding how Plasmodium falciparum, the parasite responsible, spreads through mosquitoes. At the Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology in Berlin, I study the parasite’s complex life cycle, particularly the transformations it undergoes inside the mosquito—key steps for its transmission to humans.

I explore how Plasmodium prepares for transmission, how it adapts to the mosquito, and how signaling mechanisms help it survive and develop. To answer these questions, I use molecular biology, genetic tools, and microscopy, developing new approaches that help researchers track and study the parasite more effectively.
