Pablo Máyer Suárez holds a PhD in Geography from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and is a Full Professor in the Department of Geography (Physical Geography area), where he teaches several courses, including Climatology, Natural Hazards, and Geographic Information Systems.
His research is conducted within the Physical Geography and Environment Research Group, part of the University Institute of Oceanography and Global Change (IOCAG) at ULPGC. His work primarily focuses on human-induced alterations in natural systems. Within this line of research, notable contributions include studies on urban flooding, risks associated with intense rainfall events in the Canary Islands, and the impacts of channel modifications in ravines within tourist areas.
In addition, he has developed research on risk perception and the functioning of early warning systems within the framework of civil protection. Another major research line focuses on Applied Climatology, including the characterization of the climate of the Canary Islands, analysis of extreme weather events, and climate variability in the context of climate change.
Finally, he has made significant contributions to historical climatology in the Canary Islands, particularly through the study of extreme meteorological events and drought episodes.
