I am based at the Australian National University in Canberra, with two roles occupying my time. The first is as Director of the ANU Agrifood Innovation Institute (AFII) where I lead a team whose job it is to harness the interdisciplinary capabilities of the ANU (e.g. biological, environmental and data sciences, engineering, social sciences, policy/regulation, law, business and economics) to address complex challenges facing the agrifood sector. I see exciting opportunities for interdisciplinary teams from the ANU to work with industry, government agencies and others to create solutions to complex agrifood challenges. My second role is as a professor of plant science in the Research School of Biology. I teach into a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, and run a research lab. A major focus of my research is assessing the impact of environmental gradients on plant physiological processes, particularly the impacts of temperature on carbon uptake by photosynthesis and carbon use by respiration I have been an Editor for the international plant journal, New Phytologist, since 2007.
