Olivier Salvado joined QUT in 2024 as Professor of AI to establish the AI for Health Research Network, a joint initiative between the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Health. Prof Salvado worked previously at the CSIRO where he held several leadership roles including Team Leader, Group leader of Biomedical Informatics, Head of Computer Vision and Imaging for Data61, and more recently Chief Research Scientist leading the AI for Missions initiative, a $25M+ program to develop next generation AI technologies to support large Missions across the CSIRO in collaboration with external partners.

Prof Salvado holds an executive MBA from the University of New South Wales and graduated from the Australian Institute of Company Director. Dr Salvado has published more than 200 peer-reviewed publications, which have attracted more than 15,000 citations. Prof Salvado has been an investigator in close to $50M of competitive funding, including CRC-P, MRFF, ARC, and NHMRC. He regularly contributes to organising international conferences, was the general co-Chair of ISBI 2017, and the program co-chair of ISBI 2023. Prof Salvado is a regular reviewer for scientific journals, conferences, and grants including NHMRC and ARC, and is an associate editor for the Journal of Medical Imaging.
