Dr Oliver Gibson is a Senior Lecturer in Exercise Physiology and a member of staff in the Division of Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences, Department of Life Sciences and a member of the Centre for Physical Activity in Health and Disease. He is the MSc Sport Performance Science programme lead.
Oliver's primary research interests relate to Applied Human Physiology and in particular the impact of Heat Stress on Human Health, Performance, and Function. Research in this area can be broadly divided into three areas,
1) Understanding the impact of climate change/heat waves on human health,
2) Examining the efficacy of thermal interventions to enhance health and physiological function and address disease states in clinical and exercise contexts, and
3) Quantifying changes in endurance and team sport performance in the heat and examining methods to attenuate performance declines and risk to health.
