Olga Hannonen, PhD, is a human geographer specialising on lifestyle-led mobilities and nature-based tourism.

She is one of the key names in research on digital nomadism. Her article “In search of a digital nomad: defining the phenomenon” has become a seminal paper in defining digital nomadism. Her expert opinions on various aspects of digital nomadic lifestyle and associated policy changes have been featured by the Wall Street Journal, BBC, Bloomberg, TRT World and other international media.

Her research on digital nomadism focuses on the conceptualisation and theoretical framing of the phenomenon, local community perspectives, mobility and visa regimes, including digital nomad visas.

Olga hosts an academic podcast Academia Experience (YouTube: @academiaexperience), where topical academic phenomena are discussed in everyday language.

She currently works at the Business School, the University of Eastern Finland. In addition to digital nomadism, she has carried out research on second-home and residential tourism in Finland, Spain and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. One of her most recent projects has been looking into recreational use of aquatic environments in Finland.
