Olaf Lipinski

(he/him)

I am a Research Fellow at the Institute for Digital Molecular Analytics and Science (IDMxS), Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, working at the intersection of machine learning and molecular science. Concurrently, I am a Visiting Fellow at the University of Southampton, UK, continuing the collaboration from my research fellowship, during which I developed neural networks for maritime engineering challenges. This work was carried out together with industry partners to optimise car carrier designs through estimating wave-induced resistance.

Previously, I was a Senior Machine Learning Scientist at Visa, where I created machine learning models to detect and prevent fraud, using large scale datasets based on billions of transactions. During my Ph.D., I investigated how autonomous agents develop languages from scratch, with a focus on temporal dynamics in those languages. My work examining these temporal relationships in interpretable emergent communication has been published in leading conferences including NeurIPS and ICLR.
