Ola Demkowicz

Ola Demkowicz is an Academic Psychologist and a Senior Lecturer in Psychology of Education in the Manchester Institute of Education (MIE) at The University of Manchester. Her research focuses on mental health and development in adolescence, including how developmental processes, social experiences, and systemic inequalities affect mental health across the adolescent period. This includes a body of work focusing on adolescent girls’ mental health, particularly low mood and anxiety, and on worsening rates of youth mental health in recent years. Another strand of her work focuses on how schools can support mental health and wellbeing and best meet adolescents' developmental needs. Ola has led and collaborated on research projects funded by organisations including the National Lottery Community Fund, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, the National Institute for Health and Care Research, UK Research and Innovation, and the Education Endowment Foundation, and has offered expert comment to various media outlets including the Financial Times, the Guardian, and the BBC.
