- Professor Emeritus, Department of Psychology, Faculty of Health, York University, York University, Canada
I am currently Professor Emeritus, Department of Psychology, Faculty of Health, York University.
The following is a summary of my academic and professional qualifications.
In 1980 I received a PhD in Psychology from the University of Toronto. Between 1981 and 1995 I was president of Norpark Research Consultants Inc., an applied research firm. My firm received contracts primarily from the federal government of Canada and the province of Ontario. Using a variety of research methodologies, our research group evaluated government programs to determine whether they are aligned with their policy objectives and are effective.
Between 1995 and 2001 I was employed by the Baycrest Centre for Geriatric Care. In 1997 I became a Registered Psychologist, registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario. From 1997- 2001 I was a Scientist and Assistant Director of the Kunin-Lunenfeld Applied Research Unit at Baycrest.
In 2001 I was hired by York University as an Assistant Professor. In 2006 I received tenure and became Associate Professor in 2006. I retired in 2020.
Since my retirement I have become increasingly alarmed by the effects of climate change on our environment, its impacts on physical health and psychological well-being, and I have proposed policies that could mitigate these effects. I have published articles in Policy Options, The Conversation and opinion pieces as blogs and in the Hamilton Spectator. I am currently chair of the Education Committee of the group Seniors For Climate Action Now.
