Originally from Scarborough in the North East of England, Nooreen has spent the last 8 years living and studying in Aberdeen. She completed a BSc in Pharmacology in 2010, and a MPhil in Mental Health in 2012. She is currently in the third and final year of a PhD, looking at how anti-depressants are portrayed in the media and the implications this may have for a reader. Part of this also includes adapting computational linguistic software to examine how journalists use emotion to influence their readers. As part of the Psychiatry research group, Nooreen has developed a strong background in research, and was awarded the Chief Scientist Office Doctoral Fellowship in 2012. Her research interests include mental stigma, depression in athletes and perception of psychiatric illnesses.
