I'm a former lawyer and an interdisciplinary researcher, working across music / sound studies, law, and anthropology. My research explores sound, voice, and the law. I'm currently completing a book manuscript on testimony and voice in sexual justice cases, through a case study in the Republic of Guinea. My first book, The Revolution's Echoes: Music, Politics & Pleasure in Guinea (Chicago, 2019), won the Ruth Stone Prize for most distinguished monograph in ethnomusicology, as well as a Special Commendation from the Royal Anthropological Institute (UK). I founded and co-direct the Sound Justice Lab, at the University of Virginia. In 2023-24, I was an Academic Visitor at the Centre for Socio-Legal Studies at the University of Oxford.
