- Scully Family Discovery Associate Professor in Psychology, University of Virginia
I completed my training at the University of Michigan and have been working in the Psychology Department at the University of Virginia since 2012. I study issues of risk and resilience among marginalized adolescents with a particular focus on the role of supportive intergenerational relationships (what we call "natural mentors") in positively shaping adolescent development. I also focus on race-related and poverty-related stressors, issues of underrepresentation, and intergroup relations. I teach a graduate seminar focused on structural determinants of inequality where we review how white supremacy, patriarchy, and capitalism combine to create and maintain inequality in the U.S.
