- Assistant Professor in International Education and Development (Education), School of Education and Social Work, University of Sussex
I am a lecturer at the Centre for International Education and a member of the Sussex Humanities Lab. My research focuses on African intellectual communities and social policy. I am interested to understand how the confluence of ideas and material factors enables and constrains struggles for democratic and sovereign social policy. This has led me to investigate the role of RCTs in shaping education policy, the dynamics of domestic resource mobilisation for education financing, and the systemic exclusion of African intellectuals from social policy debates.
Over the last four years, I have been involved in research that investigates the dynamics of quality education in refugee and IDP camps in Somalia and Ethiopia. I have begun to pursue these questions in the context of conflict and climate crises.
