Niels Mede

Niels G. Mede, PhD, is a Senior Research and Teaching Associate at the Department of Communication and Media Research (IKMZ) at the University of Zurich, Switzerland. He has been a visiting researcher at the University of Wisconsin—Madison (2022), the Oxford Internet Institute at the University of Oxford (2023), and the Digital Media Research Centre at Queensland University of Technology (2024).

His work centres on science communication, digital media, science criticism, environmental communication, and survey methodology. In 2022, he received his PhD from the University of Zurich with a thesis on science-related populism and its implications for science communication. He is co-PI of the Science Barometer Switzerland project and the global Many Labs study “Trust in Science and Science-Related Populism” (TISP).
