- Senior Lecturer, Computational Design, UNSW
Dr Nicole Gardner is a Senior Lecturer in the Bachelor of Computational Design, in the School of Built Environment, Faculty of Arts, Design and Architecture at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia, and an Australian Registered Architect. Nicole's research and teaching explores design technology adoption, technology innovation practices, and the future of work in the profession of architecture from a socio-technical perspective. Nicole convenes courses on the design of smart and responsive architectural and urban environments, the history and theory of urban technology, and applied design research through an action research methodology. These courses pay close attention to the social, environmental and ethical implications of integrating emerging data science systems in the design and performance of the built and urban environment. Her critique of the smart city argues that truly smart environments must engage posthumanist design approaches.
