Nicolas Cassar is the Lee Hill Snowdon Professor of Biogeochemistry in the Earth and Climate Sciences division of the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University. He received a B.S. from McGill University and a Ph.D. from the University of Hawaii, and completed postdoctoral and research appointments at Princeton University before joining Duke. From 2019-2022, he also served as Senior Associate Dean of Research and Doctoral Programs. His research focuses on understanding how elements cycle through the Earth system and influence our global climate, with particular emphasis on the central role of the oceans. His work is interdisciplinary, integrating field and satellite observations, laboratory experiments, instrument development, modeling, and theory.
