- Associate Professor in Politics and International Studies, University of Leeds
Popular culture is integral the world around us. My focuses on the nature of the representations within popular culture and their social and political consequences.
The majority of my work has centred on videogames, their meanings, how they are engaged with, their accessibility and their political implications.
More recently I have been working on children's picture books as a crucial space in which politics is made, negotiated and discussed by families, prompted by the stories these books offer.
Prior to that I was engaged in research on the EU which covers issues such as the equitable distribution of EU resources and issues centred on the exercise of power.
What unites my work is a search for optimism, embracing the possibilities that popular culture offers to us to imagine a productive, inclusive and positive future.
