Nichole Fairbrother

Dr. Nichole Fairbrother is a Clinical Associate Professor with the Department of Family Practice at the University of British Columbia, a Michael Smith Health Research BC Health Professional-Investigator and registered psychologist. She is the head of the UBC Perinatal Anxiety Disorders Research Lab (PARLab), one of the only perinatal anxiety research labs in Canada. Dr. Fairbrother’s research is in the area of perinatal anxiety disorders with a focus on epidemiology, screening, and new mothers’ thoughts of infant-related harm and their relationship with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and infant safety. Current research activities include studies of: (a) perinatal anxiety and related disorder screening tools, (b) postpartum harm thoughts and their relationship with OCD and infant safety, (c) the mental health correlates of the burden of and gender inequities in unpaid domestic labour, and (d) a test of a preventative intervention for postpartum OCD. She has received extensive support for her work from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), Micheal Smith Health Research BC (HSBC), the Wellcome Foundation (UK), the BC Women’s Health Research Institute (WHRI), the UBC Faculty of Medicine, and the University of Victoria’s Institute on Aging and Lifelong Health.
