Nicholas Harrington

Dr Nicholas Harrington is involved in research investigating electricity market reform, the decarbonisation of the UK’s housing stock, clean heat technologies and built environment energy efficiency, housing market impacts of EPCs, and reforms to the UK’s rental regulations. Nicholas specialises in Systems Thinking and Root Cause analysis.

Recent output includes reports titled, “Addressing the High Price of Electricity in the UK: A Systems Thinking Analysis of Inflated Price Formation,” “The Running Cost of Domestic Heat Pumps in the UK,” “Heat Pumps and Domestic Heat Decarbonisation in the UK: A Systems Thinking Analysis of Barriers to Adoption,” and “The Impact of Regulatory Reform on the Private Rented Sector.”

Nicholas received his PhD from the University of Sydney, completing a dissertation that combined political theory with quantum physics. This background in political science and physics provides Nicholas with a unique socio-technical perspective on the intersection between policy-making and the built environment.
